Fitness, or Physical Fitness, refers to the current state of health and the ability of the body to perform moderate to strenuous physical activities, such as simple daily work activities to a more complicated ones such as sports. Good to optimum fitness is achieved through proper nutrition, hygiene, workout and enough sleep.

Today, fitness gyms consider physical fitness as interconnected and interdependent with other factors such as mental and emotional health. These aspects must always be in equilibrium to achieve optimum fitness, to perform daily activities in best quality. How Fitness Is Achieved?

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, adults ages 18-64, must have one hour and fifteen minutes of rigorous exercises, or two and a half hours moderate intensity workout, at least three times a week if we are to achieve good physical fitness. By joining fitness gyms, physical fitness can be achieved which may help prevent lifestyle diseases such as cardiovascular diseases including diabetes mellitus, COPD, stroke and the like. Also, since diet plays an important role, most fitness gyms also acquire the services of dietitians to further promote good physical wellbeing. In connection to the lack of physical activity, diet must also be watched to ensure proper flow and balance of energy input through food intake, and energy output through physical activities.

Since as per modern day definition of fitness include mental health, wellness coaching also takes a spot to further improve total fitness level. Some fitness gyms also use the concept of wellness coaching to address barriers that an individual is experiencing that hinders progress in his workout. Wellness coaching is almost similar to guidance counseling but focuses more on the health aspect of the individual. It is also a method used by athletes to further improve their performance by improving their drive and focus to be the best that they can become.
